SMOKED OUT

Image
Adolf Hitler  the German Politician, demagogue, and Pan German revolutionary was the leader of the Nazi Party. As a dictator, he initiated World War II in Europe. The Nazi Germans in their riot of massacring prisoners from the  concentration camp  were cruel enough to use  Gas chamber to kill them. Until recent I kept wondering how atrocious the act was and the plight of the victims within those vicious gas chambers were, as they drew their last breath. I had never anticipated a day when a similar experience would be meted on my Mother and me in our very home. Back in the Nazi's gas chambers if it was  Carbon Monoxide that was used to kill people; our home was engulfed in smoke from the cigarettes emitting Nicotine and Carbon dioxide for hours together in a day.  It's surely a delight to be living in an apartment in one of the top floors. 😊 It's a sheer joy to behold the lush greenery that the city still holds with buildings towering in between them; ...

A SUMPTUOUS DINE, Series: PART 4 - A SPIRITUAL SUP

Image
The aroma of the garam masala (powdered mixture of spices) that was being stewed; the pungent smell of the garnish of garlic, chilly, bay leaves and sesame seeds; the vanilla essences was probably added in the right measurement into the dessert that was being prepared; and when the peppery aroma of the fish that was being fried caressed my nose, my famished stomach roared and rumbled; and it occurred to my senses that I had mentally slipped into my neighbor's kitchen during a session of meditation that I was undertaking on an empty stomach one afternoon. 😋 I was under the impression that ' Fasting ' was a piece of cake, but when one does so with a neighbor who cooks mouth watering dishes, it surely turns out to be an arduous task. Task in terms of Self Control. If people gorge on food thrice a day while snacking intermittently; going on a Fast is a part of every culture for purification, spiritual purposes and good health. Fasting is the willing abstinence or reduction ...

A SUMPTUOUS DINE, Series: PART 3 - SERVING WITH LOVE

Image
Yet another busy day had come to an end. My ex-colleague Anitha and I were waiting for the bus at the bus stand to get back to the office after representing the NGO (Non Governmental Organisation) that we worked for at a charity event of a prestigious IT Company. We came across a pitiable sight of a stray dog which looked very weak, all skin and bones, sick and hungry, limping across the bus stand. We were moved by the sight. But I was overwhelmed with admiration for Anitha as she quickly sprinted to a petty shop which was located close by; bought a packet of buns and fed the ailing animal. I found this act to be very curtious and divine. It surely wasn't a surprise to me when I learn't one fine morning that Anitha had bought food from a hotel for an old beggar man who had perched on the foot path. If you have assessed Anitha to have come from a rich and affluent family, then you are wrong. She comes from a middle class family and is indeed rich only in her Heart. 💖 Bles...

A SUMPTUOUS DINE, Series: PART 2 - THE RIGHT DISH

Image
I gave a gasp of astonishment and my jaw dropped open as I tried to digest the fact that four to six eggs, potatoes, and wheat toast; and every now and then fruit, bacon and oat meal comprised of the breakfast consumed by the Past U.S. President Mr. Barack Obama. Such a rich diet! 😲 As a matter of fact the Past President happened to be in his pink of health and was rated as one of the twenty 'Heros of Health and Fitness' in the Men's Health Magazine, October 2008 edition. It shows his passion not only for food but also to lead a healthy life. 'If some eat to live, some others live to eat.' They gorge on food, why only in the close confinements of their home, but the gourmets have a gala time binging food in restaurants, cafeterias, parties and even on street savoring the street food. With such a large appetite, I am sure they will give the comic character Dagwood Bumstead , the man with a love for food having a large appetite from the  Blondie series, a run for...

"He is such a fuss pot!" said a young irritated mother to her friend in a restaurant as she tried to shove some vegetables into her little son's tiny mouth which was making every effort to evade the spoon's advances. SNIP, SNIP, SNIP

Snip, Snip, Snip went the scissors across the black bouncy locks of hair of a young lass at the unisex saloon. I was amazed to see how comfortable she was inspite of a Male beautician work on her hair and get rid of her beautiful curls. He surely was skillful and the end result of his work looked artistic. I was next in row for a haircut. The thought of a man giving me a haircut almost averted me from going through a session. The dogmas that had set in my mind of a stranger especially a man's touch after series of unpleasant experiences with them, had motivated me to avoid any advances from them even if it were for a good cause. 😧 As I was busy rummaging my mind for ideas on how to kindly ask the Male beautician to refrain from handling a session for me, it took me back to the time when I was pursuing a carrier in a Non Governmental Organisation in the magnificent city of Bangalore. My work involved a lot of travelling within the city to places like Hospitals, IT Companies, Mal...

RECEIVING WITH JOY!

Image
"Akka (elder sister) I want you to have this," said my little cousin brother as I was leaving my Grandpa's home after a short visit. I was surprised to see his little hand outstretched holding two chocolates in them. He must have been an 8 or a 9 year old kid then. I being very much older to him felt awkward to accept them. I remember that I was presented small gifts by my biological brother during my birthdays in the past when he was a student. Back then there was at least an occasion to accept gifts, but when I saw the little ones outstretched hand with chocolates in them, I thought that was very sweet and at the same time a thought kept gnawing in the back of my mind telling, "you over grown buffalo should be the one giving him sweets and not taking them from him." There was no special occasion for my cousin to be giving me chocolates nor did I have a befitting reason to receive them. Due to which I gently refused to accept them and told him that they were m...
